DAY 1 : Chandigarh to Narkanda (180 kms/ 7-8 hours)
Arrive in Chandigarh and travel to Narkanda. Take frequent rests along the journey and take in the scenery as you leave the city behind. On both sides of the road, you can see lush green slopes and apple orchards. In Narkanda, you may stay in the middle of nowhere.
DAY 2 : Narkanda to Sangla (160 kms/ 7-8 hours)
After a delicious breakfast with a mountain view, travel to Sangla via Rampur. The Sutlej river will greet you in Sainj and will accompany you until you reach Spiti. Sangla is one of India’s most picturesque valleys. We propose taking a walk from your hotel to the Baspa River.
DAY 3 : Sangla to Kalpa via Chitkul (100 kms/ 4-5 hours)
If you like, go for a walk in the early morning to Basteri village. There is a historic temple there, as well as a tour around the village. We transport you to Chitkul, the last village on the Indo-Tibet border, after breakfast. We travel to Kalpa from Chitkul. Over a cup of tea, take in the breathtaking vista of the Kinner Kailash peaks.
DAY 4 : Kalpa to Tabo via Nako (170 kms / 9 hrs)
If time allows, you might stroll to Kalpa’s Old Shiva temple and Buddhist monastery in the early morning. This morning, after an early breakfast, depart for Tabo. Following Pooh, the terrain will alter and you will witness the end of the tree line. At Khab, one can see the confluence of the Spiti and Sutlej rivers. Lunch in the lovely village of Nako. If time allows, we will travel to Gue to view the Mummy.
DAY 5 : Tabo to Pin Valley/Lahlung via Dhankar (70 kms/ 4 hours)
Take it leisurely in the morning, eat your breakfast, and then visit the “Ajanta of the Himalayas,” the Tabo Monastery, which is about 1000 years old. The murals, thankas, and paintings are said to have been created by the Gods themselves in a single night. If time allows, you can also hike to the meditation caves. Visit Dhankar Monastery, which sits on a rock and overlooks the confluence of the Spiti and Pin Rivers in ancient times and is the most picturesque setting of a monument. If your lungs allow, take a hike to Dhankar Lake. For a homestay, we’ll travel to Mudh, the last village in Pin Valley, and Lahlung, the last village in Lingti Valley.
DAY 6 : Pin Valley to Kaza via Kye and Kibber (80 kms/ 4 hours)
Wake up to the breathtaking scenery of Pin Valley National Park after breakfast. Take a stroll while sipping a cup of tea. We’ll travel from Pin to Khungri monastery, the final stronghold of the Buchen Lamas in Sangam. Following that, we travel to Key Monastery and Khibber Village. The monastery is located on top of a mountain with a panoramic view of the Spiti valley and a large riverbed. It is also the main learning centre for Lamas of the Geluk Buddhist sect. This monastery has around 100 monks. We’ll continue climbing a bit higher to Khibber Settlement, which was once the world’s highest motorable village.
DAY 7 : Kaza to Langza, Hikkim, Komic and Back (70 kms/ 3 hours)
Take it easy this morning as we travel to Langza, the primary region for fossils, Hikkim, the world’s highest post office, and Komic, one of the world’s highest communities at 4600 metres. A trip to Komic’s Tangyud monastery is also recommended. During this drive, you will be able to observe some snow-capped summits. You can also hike from Langza to Komic, which will take 3-4 hours. Visit the postmaster at Hikkim’s world’s highest post office and mail some postcards from there. Return to Kaza by car.
DAY 8 : Kaza to Chandrataal Via Lohsar (120 kms/ 5 hours)
We leave early in the morning for ChandraTal, the Moon Lake, through Lohsar hamlet and Kunzum Pass. One of the highlights of the vacation will be the drive on this day. Have a cup of tea in Lohsar, the last village in the Spiti valley. After that, you’ll just travel closer to the high mountains, and all you’ll see from Kunzum Pass and beyond are snow-capped peaks. From the roadblock, the climb to ChandraTal Lake takes 20 minutes. The lake is an enthralling sight that will undoubtedly leave you speechless. We’re at a loss for words to explain it. Spend the night at a lakeside campground.
DAY 9 : Chandrataal to Manali via Kunzum and Atal Tunnel (120 kms/ 7 hours)
This is the last day of your adventure before you return to civilisation in Manali. Some people call it rough, some call it exciting, and still others call it the drive of their lives. The road between Chandratal and Manali is the most difficult, rugged, and scenic, and we guarantee you will forget to take a few breathes on this day. This terrain is difficult due to the lack of roads, a few water falls, and the fact that it is dry and dusty. Snow-capped mountains, the Chandra River flowing into Bhaga, and the huge countryside, on the other hand, make your drive memorable. You have the option of taking the newly opened Atal Tunnel or the formidable Rohtang Pass.
DAY 10 : Manali to Chandigarh (290 kms/ 10 hours).
Check out of the hotel after breakfast and begin your drive to Chandigarh. Transfer to the airport or to the railway station for your upcoming journey.
