EXPLORE ARUNACHAL
Arunachal Pradesh, known as the “Land of the Rising Sun,” is one of India’s most remote and culturally rich states, located in the northeastern region. The name comes from Sanskrit — ‘Aruna’ meaning sun and ‘achal’ meaning mountain — referring to it being the first region in India to receive sunlight.
Situated in the Eastern Himalayas, the state features towering mountains, deep valleys, dense forests, and fast-flowing rivers. The altitude ranges from about 100 metres to over 7,000 metres, creating diverse climatic conditions from tropical to alpine.
Arunachal Pradesh is fed by major Himalayan rivers such as the Siang (Brahmaputra), Subansiri, Kameng, Lohit, and Dibang, which shape its geography and support rich biodiversity.
Geographically, it shares borders with Bhutan (west), China/Tibet (north & northeast), Myanmar (east), and Assam and Nagaland (south), making it strategically and geographically unique.
The state is home to numerous indigenous tribes, each with distinct cultures and traditions. With vast forest cover and untouched landscapes, Arunachal Pradesh remains one of the most pristine and least explored regions of the Indian Himalayas.
Like other Himalayan states, the region’s climate is heavily influenced by altitude variation, and its river systems play a crucial role in shaping valleys and ecosystems across the terrain.
